BMW India has past Mercedes-Benz auto sales in India by selling 1,232 cars in the country during the January-April period. Mercedes-Benz sold 1,014 units in the same period, thus losing its number one position in the luxury car segment. In India, Audi is a distant third with January-April sales of 496 units.
The rapid growth of BMW India may be partially due to the number of new models the auto maker introduces on a regular basis; the new 7 Series, 3 Series, X5 and the diesel variant of the X3. There are currently a dozen BMW dealerships in India with an additional 10 slated for year end 2010. It appears BMW's expansion plans are heading in the right direction.

MERCEDES-BENZ REPORTS OCTOBER SALES OF 18,193 AMG MARKET NEWS/ from MBUSA - Montvale, N.J. – On November 3, 2009, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) reported October sales of 18,193 vehicles, its highest month of the year and a 21.3% improvement over October 2008.
“Clearly we're very pleased with this month's result and we believe that we will be able to parlay this into a strong fourth quarter and continued increases in our market share,” said Ernst Lieb, President & CEO of MBUSA. “This is validation of the ‘back to basics’ approach we have undertaken in partnership with our retail network, utilizing the current economic environment to strengthen the customer experience and promote the value inherent in our product line.” Lieb said the sales gains for the month were also influenced by a more stabile economic environment relative to last year and to the momentum of the company's new products -- the compact SUV GLK-Class and the new 9th generation E-Class -- as well as volume leaders like its C- and M-Class model lines.
The GLK-Class, introduced in January 2009, has outsold every vehicle in its class on a year-to-date basis. The all-new, 9th generation E-Class, launched in late June, recorded sales of 6,071 for October 2009, up 189.4% over October 2008. The other volume leaders for the month were the C-Class and M-Class with sales of 4,122, and 2,370 respectively. On a year-to-date basis, the company sold 153,606 new vehicles, trailing the comparable period last year by 20.1%.
Separately, through the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) program, MBUSA sold 5,433 vehicles in October; a 13 percent increase compared to October 2008 sales of 4,807 vehicles. Year-to-date sales for the MBCPO program are 62,161, a 17.8 percent increase over 2008 year-to-date sales (52,753 vehicles).
Mercedes-Benz USA, headquartered in Montvale, New Jersey, is responsible for the sales, marketing and customer service for all Mercedes-Benz and Maybach products in the United States. First place in the luxury class was taken by the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
AMG Market News/PR from Stuttgart: There is no automobile that satisfies its owners more than the Mercedes-Benz CLK. This is shown by a major survey on customer satisfaction among car buyers conducted by the world-famous J. D. Power Index. In this very informative study, first place in the luxury class was taken by the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. At the same time the business saloon was given a silver award for outstanding test results by the motoring magazine AUTO TEST. Germany’s most satisfied car drivers therefore sit at the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz. Customers are the people who know a product best – this is the working principle of the globally active market research organisation J. D. Power, founded in 1968 and based in Los Angeles, which regularly examines the satisfaction levels of automobile owners. For the 2009 J. D. Power Report it conducted a first-time online survey of 16,425 car drivers in Germany to record their experiences with their car. The respondents had to have owned their car for around two years and have covered around 30,000 kilometres with it. This meant that the experience gained over a total of almost 500 million kilometres could be assessed. The assessment criteria were quality/reliability, attractiveness, service and operating costs, enabling the strengths and weaknesses of the individual car models to be reliably recorded. 113 models divided into eight categories were considered in the 2009 J. D. Power Report, which is seen as the definitive buyer’s guide. First place in the overall ranking for all categories was taken by the Mercedes-Benz CLK, which also emerged the winner in the sports car ranking. In the luxury category, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (211 series) prevailed against the opposition and took first place in this ranking. The results of the J. D. Power study were also taken into account when the motoring publication AUTO TEST decided the winners of its 2009 awards. The decisions were also based on more than 500 tests and buyer reports by the magazine, as well as reliability studies by TÜV Rhineland and Eurotax Schwacke. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class received the silver AUTO TEST 2009 award. The new E-Class presented in March 2009 has everything it takes to defend this top position in the customer satisfaction index. The engineers in Stuttgart covered around 34 million test kilometres with the new E-Class well before the market launch, for example. Like its predecessor, it also offers a high level of long-distance comfort, high-grade materials in the interior, a standard of finish that shows great attention to detail, perfect ergonomics and a unique combination of driver assistance systems. Independent analysts have already confirmed that the new E-Class is the car with the best value retention in its class.
